About the Dip and Strip Process

Stripping doors, shutters, and/or furnishings of its old or initial coating is the first and most critical action in the restoration process. The original varnish, paint, or other coating needs to be entirely removed so that no residue is left and that the new surface can be effectively refinished. This crucial time-consuming process does not allow for shortcuts.

Due to the very intricate process and delicate nature of the items being restored, experience matters when selecting the right company to trust with your valuable items. Our team will treat your project with the utmost respect and care to ensure that a first-class job is the outcome.

The process of stripping begins with the items being placed in a tank of stripper and left in the tank for a period until the paint/varnish starts to bubble and lift off. The process is repeated until most of the material is removed. This process involves hand scrapping.

After stripping, we neutralize the items to remove any stripper that is embedded in the wood. Strippers have a high PH level (acidity and or alkalinity solution) which can burn through the new paint.

FYI,

• The Government has stopped manufacturers from using Methylene Chloride in the Paint strippers.
• Since, this has happened, strippers are not as aggressive as they once were; Therefore, more hand labor is required to remove the existing coatings.
• Over the last few years, the cost of paint strippers has escalated extremely.
